The announcers were all over the players today in what I watched for driving the ball all over Firestone’s South Course. This is pretty hilarious to me that none of them realize, when you look at the best players in the game it’s inherently obvious they care a lot more about hitting the ball far off the tee than they do hitting it accurate. Guys like Phil and Tiger have been punished for this cavalier style by being the best two players in the world over the past decade.

Sure, they would love to hit the ball straighter off the tee, I’m sure. But they have found under almost no circumstances is hitting a higher percentage of fairways worth giving up 10-20 yards off the tee. I really don’t understand how the people covering golf haven’t figured this out.
